The Wizard

At night he walks beside me
in a long coat
black hat hiding his narrow face
looking with sharp eyes
laughing with yellow teeth.

He laughs at birth
and cackles at painful death,
he tells tales
about crazy dooms
and absurd choices.

"The rooms have been decorated
and the ball begins
but the wizard does not arrive.
Men dress in their best
women are beautiful
everyone is polite to each other
but the wizard does not arrive."

I walk to the door of the banqueting room
and he remains waiting outside.
I join the neat people
and become one of them.

Still I don't know what to do,
until I dress in a long cloak
wear what I want
look with sharp eyes
and I am not pleasing anyone.
