Windows

The lights of the city windows disappear one by one
as tired souls get a moment of rest.
I stay awake and pray.

Their sleep grants them a short moment free of pain.
Their sorrows will salute them when a new day dawns.

They wake up like lost children, wishing for a day of love,
afraid of finding friendliness in whose solidity they believe not.

Side by side, afraid of each other,
they endure until it is time to sleep.

The lights of the city windows disappear one by one
as tired souls get a moment of rest.
I stay awake and pray.
