My Sister

We sit beside each other
on a lonesome island
watching the sun go down,
memorizing our lost childhood.

As I take you under my arm
and hold you beside me,
your head rests on my shoulder
and we both start to shed tears
thinking of all we've gone through.

Staring into the campfire
and into each other's eyes
our hearts finally meet
as brother and sister.

Only now I realize
how much I love you,
how much you love me,
how we lost each other in childhood
in the same way we lost our father and mother:
living in the same house afraid of each other,
close yet distant and deserted.

I love you, my sister.
