My Holiness

My holiness was lost in your bottle.
I tried to see an image of myself
but I saw someone to be beaten.

My holiness was lost
in my shame of being worthless.
I tried to see an image of myself
but I saw a powerless addict.

My holiness was lost
in my rebellion against the unholy.
All I saw was dirt inside dirt outside
and nothing to clean it with.

I fought back with unholy means
against the unholy in my heart
against the unholy all around
trying to find a hint of godliness.

My holiness was lost
until love opened my heart
and broke the curse of revolt.
It gave me peace and holiness
that grew from within
and found its way all around.

I see an image of myself
shining in dignity,
full of holiness and worth
of every human being.
